BRT FAQs

How does BRT work?

BRT is designed to provide enhanced bus service in key corridors by reducing travel times and providing a high level of passenger amenities. While BRT operations differ throughout the country, they all have a few common elements which are incorporated in the Tulsa AERO system:

  • Specially designed stations and buses with unique graphics and name referred to as the AERO
  • Frequent service – The BRT operates 7 days a week, every 20-30 minutes.

New technology:

  • Real-time schedule information displays at stations.
  • Level boarding. Stations are designed to be level with doors on the buses, so there are no steps to navigate. Simply walk or roll right onto the bus.
  • Improved station lighting.
  • Improved pedestrian and bicycle connections to stations.
  • Bicycle amenities at stations.

Why BRT?

  • It plays a vital role in connecting people to their jobs and businesses to their customers.
  • Sparks economic development for our city.
  • Cost effective, efficient and is proven to increase transit use.
  • Investment in the community.

Why Peoria Avenue?

  • This high-capacity transit line connects people to jobs and many major destinations including Downtown, Cherry Street, Brookside, Pearl District, BOK Center, Tulsa Tech Peoria Campus, Shoppes on Peoria, Oral Roberts University, Cityplex Towers, Centennial Park, and the Denver Avenue station.
  • One in seven of the city’s residents and 20% of jobs are within a 10-minute walk of the corridor.
  • The corridor carries more passengers than any other existing transit route in the city.
  • The corridor was the top transit priority in the 2010 Tulsa Comprehensive Plan, PlaniTulsa.

How is the project funded?

Funding for the Peoria AERO BRT project comes from a combination of Improve Our Tulsa and Vision Tulsa programs.

How easy is it to use the Aero BRT?

It is very easy! The Aero BRT service is just like any other bus route in Tulsa, except it has designated boarding stations you must use to access the route. Aero Buses will run every 20 minutes on Weekdays/Saturdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays.  Purchase a physical pass or use our mobile GoPass app and enjoy the ride.

Where can I purchase Aero bus tickets?

Aero bus tickets are the same as other bus tickets. Day, Reduced Day, 7-Day and Reduced 7-Day passes may be purchased on the bus with cash. Please tell the operator what type of pass you want to purchase before you put your money into the farebox. You may purchase other bus passes at DAS, participating QuikTrips, or with the GoPass app.

Where can I catch the Aero BRT buses?

The Aero BRT has stops along Peoria at new designated shelters that can be located on the route map.

Do Aero buses have convenient ways to transport my bike?

Yes!  There is a bike rack on every bus, so you can transport your bike on the Aero buses. The standard shelter stations are equipped with bike racks as well.
