Bikes On The Bus

Ride Your Bike

Wherever Tulsa Transit goes, your bike can go too!  With a bike rack on every bus, you are now able to make bike riding a part of your regular commute.

Traveling by bike and bus is a great way to stay in shape, save money and improve our air quality!

The Basics Of The Bike Rack

  • Only two-wheel bikes are allowed; No tricycles or training wheels.
  • Only single-rider, non-motorized bikes are permitted.
  • No bikes with child carrier seats or tandem bikes.
  • As the bus approaches, have your bike ready to load.
  • Remove water bottles, pumps or any loose items that might fall off.
  • Each rack holds two bikes and is mounted on the front of the bus. If the rack is full, please ask the bus operator if you can board the bus with your bike or wait for the next bus.
  • Tell the operator you are loading your bike. Be sure the operator sees you before you step in front of the bus.
  • Always load and unload your bike from the curb side. Never step into traffic.
  • Cyclists must load and unload their own bikes. The bus operator cannot assist.
  • Bikes cannot be locked while on the bike rack. Sit near the front of the bus to keep an eye on your bike.
  • Bikes are transported at the owner’s risk. Tulsa Transit is not responsible for bikes that are lost, stolen or damaged while they are on the bike rack or at any of our facilities.
  • Tulsa Transit’s bus stations have free bike racks where you can lock your bike.

Loading your bike

  1. Pull Down

Pull down to release the folded bike rack. You only need one hand to pull the rack down, so you can hold your bike with your other hand.

  2. Lift Your Bike

Lift your bike onto the rack, fitting wheels into the slots. Each slot is labeled for front and rear wheels. Please load your bike in the front (outside) slot first. If a bike is already in the front, load yours in the rear slot facing the opposite direction.

  3. Raise and Release

Raise and release the spring-loaded support arm over the top of the front tire. Make sure the support arm is resting on the tire and not on the fender or frame.

Unloading your bike

  1. Inform Your Driver

Tell the operator you need to unload your bike before you approach your stop.

  2. Raise the Support Arm

Raise the support arm off the tire. Move the support arm down out of your way.

  3. Lift Your Bike

Lift your bike out of the rack.

  4. Fold the Rack

Fold up the rack if there is no other bike in the rack.
